She’s done it countless times on the track for the Anamosa high school team over the years, now former Raider Nicole Sanborn is winning on the collegiate level as well.

Sanborn, a freshman for the Mount Mercy University women’s track team, claimed a championship in her first-ever college long jump event in Waverly Friday, Jan. 10.

Sanborn flew 16’ 10” on her third of four tries to top the 11-jumper field that featured athletes from the University of Dubuque, the host Knights and Loras College.

Sanborn scored 10 of Mount Mercy’s 54 total points at the event, as the Mustangs finished fourth at the season-opening five-team meet.
