I mentioned last week in this space that the Anamosa girls golf team was looking to make school history hoping to become the first Raider girls’ team ever to make it to the state golf tournament.
What was I thinking?
Anamosa has had so much success on the links in their history, of course there had to have been a team that made it.
Well, thanks to our loyal J-E readers, I was notified that the 1983 Anamosa girls golf team had indeed advanced all the way to the state tournament (which I obviously missed in my research).
Linny Sissel, Darla Ketelsen, Jill Bahnsen, Rhonda Seaton and Heather McManus all competed for the Raiders at the state tourney at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club where they combined to post a team score of 833 to place third in class 2A.
Sissel led all Anamosa golfers at state firing a two day total of 204 (106-98) while Ketelsen added a 208 (105-103).
That ‘83 group remains the last Raider girls’ team to advance all the way to state as Anamosa came up just short in their quest Monday, May 21, after placing fourth at the 3A regional final tournament in Waverly.
With four of the six Raider girls returning to the roster next season, it could just be a matter of time before another Anamosa girls team competes at state.
