Sadly, most of us suffer from Trump fatigue. Daily we are outraged by what the president has done. But I fear that the fatigue we suffer has made us numb.
Numb to scientific warnings about the impending global catastrophe from climate change. Numb to the economic results of trade decisions. Numb to humans still in cages in horrid conditions. Numb to children torn from parents whom they have no chance of ever seeing again. Numb to the encouragement of adversaries as they attempt to tip the scales of our elections and create doubt in our citizenry that democracy still exists in the U.S.A.
And now, we have become numb to U.S. responsibility for the potential slaughter of a “nation” of people – the Kurds. This tribe has given thousands of lives to do the hard work on the ground to contain ISIS — to protect us and much of the world from the horror of these terrorists. In a single Sunday phone call with the dictator of Turkey, our president gave Turkey the green light to decimate the Kurdish people and, as a result, to potentially free tens of thousands of ISIS prisoners who will renew attacks throughout the world.
How, in a democracy of, by and for the people, can one man – even a president — wreak such havoc? This must stop. As citizens of a great democracy – at least for now – we must wake up and act. We must insist that those who represent us in Congress finally step up. Not only must this man be removed from office, Congress must step in to do triage, beginning with Turkey and their attack on the Kurds.
Call upon our senators and representatives to act. Call, text, email or write their offices. Tell those who speak for us that enough is enough.
