Community stepped up to the plate

All we can say is thank you, thank you, thank you to our community — to the Journal-Eureka, individuals, businesses, churches and private organizations — for the tremendous response to the food needs at the Jones County Community Food Bank.

Since the Journal-Eureka ran its article in early August, the community has delivered the largest amount of food ever in one food drive. Individuals and groups also gave monetary donations, some very generous. Those funds not only let us buy food, they also pay for food vouchers that let people buy perishables like flour, sugar and ground beef at Fareway. Food vouchers take about $1,000 per month from those funds.

Thank you to the Journal-Eureka for publishing the headline article and photo of almost empty shelves.

Thank you to the members of our community who stepped up and have been bringing bags and cases of food and funds to the food bank.

Thank you to Citizens Bank, Fidelity Bank & Trust and F&M Bank for holding a food drive through the month of August.

Thank you to the stores that have hung signs and have been collecting donations.

The shelves are almost full again thanks to all of you — your generosity will make a tangible difference to our neighbors in need. They will know it when they can sit down and eat a meal they wouldn’t have had otherwise except for you.
