A new holiday tradition began Dec. 2 in Springville as the city held the first ever Christmas Winter Festival.

The event, sponsored by the city’s park board, featured a soup supper, a Parade of Lights downtown and a tree lighting in Butler Park with Santa doing the honors, with a countdown courtesy of the kids in attendance.

After that, Santa spent time with area kids at the American Legion.

Teresa Pilipovic said in coming up with ideas for what to do for the new event, the goal was to try to offer a multitude of activities to provide something for everyone.

“We just threw in as many things as we could,” she said.

The whole planning process happened quickly, with the whole event being thrown together over the course of a month. However, the feedback received was positive and the plan is for the event to run annually.

“People liked it and they want to see it again,” Pilipovic said.
