Iowa Health System changes name to Unity Point Health

Jones Regional Medical Center name stays the same

As an affiliate of Unity Point Health, Jones Regional Medical Center is incorporating the name into its logo, as was done with the Iowa Health System name.

“The way we deliver health care is fundamentally changing,” said Eric Briesemeister, Jones Regional Medical Center’s CEO. “And as a result, a name change for the system was needed and reflects our new way of providing care by putting the patient at the center of everything we do. Our team of doctors, specialists and patient care team are united in purpose to achieve best outcomes for patients. Now, the system’s brand name better expresses that. Jones Regional will incorporate the new name into its logo but will still be referred to as Jones Regional Medical Center.”

Iowa Health System began in 1993, when Iowa Methodist and Iowa Lutheran in Des Moines merged. At the time, the merger created the state’s largest provider of hospital and related health services. Since then Unity Point Health has grown to encompass eight major geographic regions in Iowa and Illinois.

The new name and brand logo were unveiled to system leaders and employees on April 16. This change symbolizes the difference between the former hospital-centered health care process to one that more effectively addresses the total care of all patients, whether they are at a clinic, a hospital or home. The move to a physician-led organization focusing on patient care coordination is ongoing.

The decision to become Unity Point Health follows several years of innovation and discussions between the organization’s regions, board of directors, physician leadership and management teams regarding health care changes and how to best position the organization for the future.

The strategic plan of Unity Point Health is focused on a new care coordination model, expansion and organizational growth at the system and local level.

There will be no change in management, structure or staff involved in this brand change. Overall, Unity Point Health employs more than 24,000 individuals throughout Iowa and Illinois, and each region will maintain its existing leadership and local boards of directors.

“Jones Regional Medical Center will continue to be our community hospital,” said Jay Willems, Jones Regional Medical Center’s board and foundation chairman. “The Jones Regional board will continue to govern the hospital and the foundation fundraising will still benefit Jones Regional Medical Center locally.”

Today, Unity Point Health is one of the nation’s most integrated health systems. Through relationships with more than 900 physicians and providers working in more than 280 Unity Point Clinics, 29 hospitals in metropolitan and rural communities and home care services throughout its eight regions, Unity Point Health provides care throughout Iowa and Illinois.
